Modesty Matters
Thank the Lord for things that NEVER change, the most important of which are God and His Word.
“For I am the LORD, I change not: therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” (Malachi 3:6)
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” (Psalm 119:89)
Though God and His Word are unchanging, sadly there are people and churches who are making changes and heading in a different direction. One of the areas most affected has to do with what the Bible says about our apparel and appearance as ladies.
So I looked in my Bible, and yes it is still there! God and His Word have not changed. First Timothy chapter two still says, “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.” (I Timothy 2:9-10)
Modest apparel has a very defined meaning in the scriptures, and it highlights femininity without shouting sexuality. Modest apparel gives us plenty of choices to be feminine and look attractive while still striving to please the Lord and promote His glory in our manner of dress.
What does the Bible say about our appearance and apparel as it affects our relationship with the Lord and our testimony before this world? Lately, I’m hearing echoes of “Who really cares about what we wear? Is modesty really all that important? Does it really matter?”
So I’m here to say, “Yes, it does! It matters to God.”
